Questions

Does it soften my water?

No — and nothing that screws onto a hose can. Limescale comes from minerals that only a whole-house softener removes. What it does: PP cotton catches grit and rust, activated carbon is there for chlorine.

Will it fit my shower?

If your current head unscrews by hand from the hose, yes. It fits mixer, combi and power showers with the standard UK ½" hose. It is not suitable for electric showers (the white box with a dial on the wall).

I rent. Do I need my landlord's permission?

No. No drilling, no tools, nothing touches the plumbing. It screws onto the hose you already have, and you put the original head back when you move out. Your deposit’s safe.

Will it lower my water pressure?

How strong it feels depends on your home’s pressure, so we won’t promise it goes up. On mixer and combi showers most people won’t notice a difference. If you don’t like how it feels, you have 60 days to send it back.

How often do I change the cartridge?

Roughly every 60 days of daily use. Refills come in packs of 3 for £14.99. You’ll see when it needs changing — the cotton gets visibly dirty.

Which one sounds like you?

Just moved to LondonJust moved to London: testing the KLAROVAI filtered shower head in a rented bathroom

Your hair hasn’t been the same since you moved.

You moved for a job, a relationship, a city you wanted to try. Nobody mentioned the water. A few months in, the kettle’s furred up, there’s limescale on the shower screen, and your hair feels like straw. Then you go home for a weekend and it comes back. It’s the water. You can’t change what comes out of the tap. You can filter what comes out of the shower.

Hand-tight on the hose you already have.

A whole-house softener is £1,000+, needs a plumber, needs the landlord to sign it off, and you can’t make it pay in a 12-month tenancy anyway. KLAROVAI unscrews with your hand onto the hose you already have. When you move out: put the original head back, take KLAROVAI to the next flat. Your deposit’s safe.

If you’re at your wit’s end and you’ve changed everything except the one thing you shower in every day, this is the missing piece. The whole shower goes through the cartridge in the handle — not just a jug at the end. We won’t promise what it does to your hair. We’ll give you 60 days to find out.

It’s the water

Safe to drink. That doesn’t mean it’s kind to hair.

London’s water runs through chalk, which makes it hard, and it’s treated with chlorine to keep it safe. You can’t change what comes out of the tap. Here’s what changes when it reaches your shower — and what a filter in the handle can and can’t do about it.

Chlorine

Added by law to keep tap water safe. The activated carbon stage is designed to reduce it before the water reaches you.

Sediment & rust

Fine particles travel through older London pipework. The PP cotton layer catches them — you'll see it darken.

Hard water — we won't pretend

No shower head of any brand softens hard water. Only a plumbed-in whole-house softener removes calcium and magnesium.

Inside the handle

Two filter stages. No electrics, no app.

A replaceable cartridge sits inside the handle. Every drop goes through it before it reaches you.

PP cotton filter layer
01

Sediment stage (PP cotton)

  • Mechanically traps rust particles, pipe sediment and visible debris
  • You'll see this layer darken through the window on the handle

Honest bit: That darkening is the filter working — proof you can see in your own bathroom.

Activated carbon filter layer
02

Chlorine stage (activated carbon)

  • The same material used in many drinking-water filter jugs
  • Designed to reduce the free chlorine your water company adds

Honest bit: Composition declared by the manufacturer. Our own independent lab test is commissioned — the report goes here when it's ready.

The window on the handle

  • See the cartridge from outside
  • Swap it in seconds, no tools

Honest bit: When the sediment layer is noticeably brown, it's done its job — time for a fresh one.

Changing it: About every 60 days of daily use. Twist the handle open, drop the old cartridge out, drop the new one in, twist closed. No tools. A 3-pack (£14.99) covers 6 months.

I stopped reaching for body lotion the second I got out

My skin used to feel tight the moment I stepped out of the shower, especially in winter. Three weeks in, it just doesn’t. Same water, same shower gel, but that pulled, papery feeling afterwards has gone.

The pool smell in a hot shower has gone

I’m not going to say it changed my life, but the chlorine smell you get with a hot shower in our flat has disappeared, and my legs aren’t dry and scratchy by the afternoon any more. Fitted in ten minutes with a tea towel for grip.

Honest about what it does, and it does that

Bought it because they said upfront it wouldn’t soften the water. It doesn’t. What it does do is stop that itchy, tight feeling on my arms after every shower. The cartridge was brown after five weeks, which was a bit grim but weirdly reassuring.

Noticeably less frizz since switching

Moved down south two years ago and my hair has been a frizzy disaster area ever since, no matter how much conditioning I threw at it. I’d been doing a final rinse with a jug from the Brita. This does the same thing for the whole shower and I’ve binned the jug.

My colour lasts longer between appointments

I get my blonde done every eight weeks and it was going flat and brassy by week four. Since fitting this I’m going longer between appointments and using far fewer clarifying washes. I can’t say it’s the filter alone, but it’s the only thing I changed.

I read every review complaining about pressure before buying. On our mixer shower it’s honestly no different, and mist mode feels stronger if anything. The pause button while you soap up is the thing I didn’t know I needed.

The pause button is the bit I use most

Renting, so I couldn’t touch the plumbing. Screwed on by hand and it comes with me when I move. The pause button saves a surprising amount of water, and the state of the cartridge after six weeks was convincing.

Straight answers

What it does. And what it doesn’t.

  • It won’t soften your water or remove limescale. Nothing that screws onto a hose can.
  • It won’t treat eczema, dermatitis or any skin or scalp condition.
  • It won’t promise "advert hair". You get 60 days to judge for yourself.
  • Catches sediment and rust particles your pipes send down.
  • Runs the whole shower through an activated carbon stage designed to reduce chlorine — not just a jug at the end.
  • Fits by hand and comes with you when you move.

FAQ

The questions you’d ask us if we were in the same room. A real person replies within one working day: klarovai.support@gmail.com

Is there a subscription?

No. Nothing recurring is added to your order. Refill cartridges are sold separately when you need them: 3 for £14.99, about 6 months for one shower.

What’s in the box?

1 shower head: shower head with cartridge fitted, 1 spare cartridge, hose, wall holder, PTFE tape and instructions.

2 shower heads: 2 shower heads with cartridges fitted, 2 spare cartridges, 2 hoses, wall holder, PTFE tape and instructions.

2 shower heads + 6 cartridges: everything in the 2-head pack plus 6 extra cartridges.

What does the filter actually do?

Two things. The PP cotton layer catches sediment and rust particles — you’ll see it darken. The activated carbon stage is designed to reduce chlorine. We won’t quote a percentage until our own lab test on this exact cartridge is published.

Are there independent test results?

Not yet. We’ve commissioned an independent lab test on this exact cartridge. We’ll publish the report on this page when it’s ready — until then we won’t quote any percentages.

Will it change my hair or skin?

We can’t promise that. Hair and skin depend on many things, and water is only one of them. That’s exactly why you get 60 days to judge it in your own shower.

How do I install it?

Unscrew the shower head you have now, by hand (a tea towel for grip if it’s stiff). Wrap one layer of the included PTFE tape around the hose thread. Screw KLAROVAI on, hand-tight. Run the water for a minute to flush the cartridge. Done.

How long does delivery take?

Free UK tracked delivery. We prepare your order within 1–2 working days and it arrives 7–12 working days from the day you order. UK only.

How do returns work?

Within 60 days of delivery, email klarovai.support@gmail.com and we’ll send a prepaid return label. You get a full refund of the product price. You also keep your 14-day legal right to cancel.

Why is it cheaper than the big filtered shower head brands?

We sell direct, keep the design simple and tell you exactly what it does and doesn’t do. We don’t inflate the price to discount it.

Can’t change the water? Change the shower.

Two filtered shower heads for £44.95, free UK delivery, 60 days in your own bathroom. If London water still wins, we refund you.
