The Filtered Shower Head

How to replace the filter in your KLAROVAI shower head

Last updated

The cartridge inside the handle is what does the filtering, so keeping it fresh is the one bit of maintenance the KLAROVAI head needs. It takes under a minute and no tools. Here is when to do it and how.

Why replace the cartridge?

Over time the PP cotton layer fills with sediment and rust particles and the activated carbon becomes saturated. A cartridge that has gone brown is doing its job — but once it is full it can hold back flow and stops helping to reduce chlorine. Swap it regularly and the head keeps working as designed.

How often? About every 60 days for a typical household. Very hard water, older pipework or a large family can shorten that — go by colour and flow rather than the calendar.

What you will need

  • A new KLAROVAI replacement cartridge (the spares in your box, or a 3-pack of refills).
  • A dry cloth or towel.
  • Optional: rubber gloves for grip.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Turn off the water

Close the shower valve so nothing runs while the handle is open.

  2. Unscrew the handle

Hold the spray head in one hand and twist the bottom section of the handle anticlockwise. If it is stiff, a dry cloth or rubber gloves give you the grip you need — no tools.

  3. Slide out the old cartridge

Tip the handle and the cartridge slides out. It will be darker than when it went in; that is the sediment it caught. Bin it with household waste.

  4. Wipe the inside

Check the housing for grit or scale and wipe it with a damp cloth so the new cartridge seats cleanly.

  5. Insert the new cartridge

Slide the new cartridge in the same way round as the old one came out. It should sit snugly without force — if it does not, check the orientation.

  6. Screw the handle back on

Twist clockwise until hand-tight. Do not over-tighten.

  7. Flush for 60 seconds

Turn the water on and let it run for a minute. Cloudy water at first is carbon dust from the new cartridge and clears on its own.

  8. Check for drips

Look at the join on the handle. If you see a drip, tighten a quarter turn by hand.

Never run out

Refill cartridges are £14.99 for a pack of three. If you would rather not think about it, the optional refill plan sends a fresh pack every 60 days: you get an email before every charge and can skip, pause or cancel from your account at any time. No lock-in.
